While many organisations have a plan for responding to common first aid problems such as cuts and grazes, sprains and strains, broken bones and even heart attacks, they are a lot less equipped to recognise and respond to the mental health equivalent. First aiders save lives. Now Mental Health First Aiders are saving lives too!

CoLiberate have been delivering the official internationally accredited Mental Health First Aid Certificate since October 2017. The programme has been developed over the last 17 years, bringing consumer experiences and professional perspectives together.
This extensive 2 – day programme is hands-on. Practice opportunities supported by coaching conversations ensure MHFA’ers are confident to respond to crisis situations and the signs of depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance misuse.
Certified First Aiders are making shifts to the mental health culture of their workplaces and are using the skills to save lives at home and at work.
Coliberate delivers certificate programmes in-house in workplaces and has worked with more than 50 organisations across the country.
It’s common to come to mental health conversations with high levels of fear. CoLiberate are master of hosting safe environments where people are well supported through the intensity of what these conversations can bring up.
By the end of the programme participants are trained to:
- Recognise the signs and signals of a developing mental illness and assist a person to seek professional support.
- Recognise when a person may be experiencing a mental health crisis and respond to keep everyone safe.
- Understand the different kinds of professional services available in the field of mental health and where to access them. Know who to contact for emergency assistance and who can assist in the process of recovery.
- Have an understanding of language that is helpful and language that is unhelpful when responding to mental distress.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between mental health and mental illness.
- Feel confident in implementing the ALGEE action plan.
- Better understand their own boundaries and the importance of debrief and self-care strategies.
