We’ll keep your people, keeping your people well.
CoLiberate’s purpose is enable the emotional and mental health support capability of our nation! We work with organisations to develop sustainable wellbeing strategies, deliver customised wellbeing workshops and Mental Health First Aid Certificates. Our services are designed to bring people together and create a culture of shared empathy, understanding and acceptance of who we are, how we are… wherever we are! We have created game-changing workshops, trainings and sessions that gives permission for people to engage with mental and emotional health, equip people with the effective support skills and generate a positive impact that ripples into our communities.
We’re a social enterprise, which means we put the people before profit. Our profit gets reinvested back into supporting the people within this organisation and the unsung heroes who are already doing this mahi. Mental health, wellbeing and our ability to keep people, keeping their people well is not something we profit on.
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. We are an accredited social enterprise through the Ākina Foundation and accredited Living Wage Employer.
Our foundations are in radical inclusive theatre-making processes, learning by doing, strategic partnering and valuing our significant previous experiences of support. We are accredited providers of New Zealand Mental Health First Aid Certificate and certified in suicide prevention through LifeKeepers’.

Co-founders Bop, Sarah and Jody, are alumni of the accelerator programme, Live the Dream which helped launch CoLiberate’s first Mental Health Gym in 2016. With thanks to Urban Dream Brokerage, CoLiberate were able to provide low-cost emotional workouts for 18months at their 111 Customhouse Quay location. When the studio closed in April 2018, CoLiberate took their ’emotional workouts’ to their second studio at 39 Webb Street where they are currently developing the next iteration of the Wellbeing Gym to provide their offerings at the largest scale possible across all of New Zealand by 2020.
As well as offering in-house wellbeing sessions, they expanded in their first year to include wellbeing culture training within organisations. They deliver Mindwork Bootcamps to help workplace teams use mindfulness tools to recognise and respond to stress and distress; organisational presentions that engage with tools to support people in our work environments, consent education workshops.
In October 2017, Ko Awatea accredited CoLiberate to lead the facilitation of New Zealand’s Mental Health First Aid Certificate. CoLiberate is now the lead providers for the Wellington and Palmerston North regions. Within three weeks, the demand for this service qualified them to expand and deliver the certification in organisations across New Zealand.
Since then, we have certified over 600 people in Mental Health First Aid. In our most recent impact survey, it shows that these MHFAers are having on average 2.2 conversations per week. That is nearly 70,000 support-based conversations happening every year. We know that these conversations have significantly improved lives – allowed people to recieve the support they need. We also know that these conversations have saved lives.
